Water dissolves and transports other nutrients throughout the body, aiding the processes of digestion, absorption, circulation, and excretion, and also helps regulate body temperature. The body needs to replace 2-1/2 to 3 quarts of water every day to perform these functions. Without replenishment of fresh water, we will die in a few days.
Some of the water required comes from the water in foods. About six to eight glasses of water are needed to make up the balance, though. Drinking juice, milk or other |beverages| can fulfill this requirement. However, some |beverages| have a diuretic effect (they wash water out of the body through urination). These include alcoholic |beverages|, coffee, tea and colas. The best source is just plain, pure water.
